Aluminium interlocking panel cladding

The brief
A house on the water with the national park across it. The cladding had to carry a copper colour a few metres from the tide, and it had to turn every plane on the building: walls, soffits, the blades between the glazing, the entry gate and the garage door.
What we did
Panels run vertically in the V25 interlocking profile, fixed through a concealed flange so nothing shows on the face. Widths were set out from the window openings and the screen bays first, and the same module carries off the wall onto the soffits and the gate leaves, so the joint lines stay continuous where the planes meet.
The detail
Aged Copper is a PVDF coating on aluminium, so the colour arrives finished and holds. On a site this close to the water it avoids the two things real copper would have brought: runoff staining the sandstone and concrete below it, and a patina moving at a different rate on every face.
