Case study

Flat lock panel facade

  1. The brief

A rendered house with a metal panel field over the main elevation. Flat lock gives a flush wall with a fine shadow joint, which is the opposite effect to a raised seam.

  2. What we did

Panels were folded on all four edges and interlocked with their neighbours on a concealed clip. The grid was set out from the entry so the joint lines pass through the corners of the openings instead of missing them by a few millimetres.

  3. The detail

Flat lock is a wall system. It has no upstand to keep water out of the joint, so it belongs on a facade and on nothing that could be described as a roof.
