Case study

Standing seam cladding

  1. The brief

A projecting room over the water frontage, clad as a single object. The site sits on the harbour, so the finish had to hold up to salt spray without a coating that would chalk in the reflected light.

  2. What we did

All four faces and the soffit were clad in one setting out so the seams continue around the corners at constant spacing. The pans were folded to length and worked from a barge side scaffold.

  3. The detail

Waterfront sites move fixings faster than anything else. Every clip is stainless, and the fasteners into the deck were chosen to match, because a galvanised screw in a zinc or aluminium wall on the harbour is a two year problem.
